Beginner's Guide
This guide helps beginners take their first steps in The Settlers Online and build a functioning economy.
The first quests are already covered in detail in the forum . At the start, it's important to follow the game's built-in tutorial, otherwise resources will quickly run short.
Important: short travel distances
A key requirement for a well-functioning economy is short travel distances to warehouses. Build production buildings as close to a warehouse as possible.
Buildings with resource deposits
For buildings that draw resources from a deposit, keep travel distances to both the deposit and the warehouses short:
In addition to building placement, a balanced ratio of building counts must also be maintained. The number of buildings needed follows from each building's production time and consumption.
Example: softwood planks
Ratio: 3 forester's huts → 2 lumberjacks → 4 sawmills
This ratio also applies to other types of wood.
Buffs offer a way to increase yield and save on buildings. Early in the game, these can mainly be produced via the Provision House .
